I Didn't Move Abroad to Spend My Life Chasing Shifts

Hi, I'm Balikis Lawal—a wife, a proud mum of three, and the founder of Balqueen Digital.

Like many families who move abroad, I came to Australia with big dreams and a determination to build a better future for my family.

I built a career as a Case Worker and Disability Support Worker, and I genuinely enjoy caring for people and making a positive difference in their lives.

But behind the scenes, life wasn't always easy.

I was working multiple shifts, including weekends and public holidays, constantly trying to balance work, motherhood, and family life. Some weeks felt like I was simply surviving—going from one shift to another, coming home exhausted, and repeating the same routine all over again.

Although I was grateful to have a stable job, I knew I wanted more than just exchanging my time for money.

I wanted more flexibility.

More choices.

More time with my husband and children.

More freedom to be present for the moments that matter most.

Four years ago, I discovered digital business.

To be honest, I had absolutely no experience.

I wasn't a business expert.

I wasn't a social media influencer.

I wasn't even particularly confident with technology.

But I was willing to learn.

With the right training, mentorship, and a proven step-by-step system, I developed new skills and gradually built something alongside my job.

That decision became one of the best investments I ever made in myself.

One of my biggest goals is to transition away from working shifts so I can have greater control over my time while continuing to help others in a different way.
